September 18, 2003 proved to be a bright day for the future of the Crystal River waterfront, the day the Florida Department of Community Affairs announced that the City of Crystal River was selected as a community in the Waterfronts Florida Partnership Program.
After receiving the designation, a community receives intensive technical assistance and limited financial assistance from the Department of Community Affairs, resulting in a new or refined community-designed vision plan (special area management plan), to guide the revitalization of the community's designated waterfront area. We are proud to have been the recipient of this grant. After the two year period was over, the Waterfront Advisory Board was established by City Council vote in May, 2006 passing Ordinance # 06-O-10.
